Harvesting is the central risk decision in Greedy Growers. The official game description explicitly tells players to harvest before lightning, so waiting has a real hazard. It does not publish a lightning probability, guaranteed safe window, or an official “80/20 rule.”
Choose your exit rule before planting
Safe harvest
Collect once the plant gives a return that protects your next cycle. Best for new accounts or a low cash reserve.
Balanced harvest
Keep one cycle's reserve, then let only extra capital stay exposed. Use a visible state change, not a remembered timer, as your trigger.
Experimental harvest
Risk a small portion to test later growth or Greed. Log every success and lightning loss; do not risk the entire farm.
A simple test
Pick one seed and avoid fertilizer or new upgrades during the sample. Record the visible state at harvest, elapsed time, return, and whether lightning occurred. Repeat with an earlier or later exit. Ten careful observations are more informative than one lucky result, but they still do not reveal the game’s true probability.
Community titles mentioning “80/20,” “200x,” or “1000x” show that players are interested in risk and large multipliers. They do not prove a fixed rule. Treat those terms as labels to check in the live UI.
When to collect immediately
- You need the proceeds to buy the next seed.
- The interface shows a warning or state change you have not tested.
- A patch changed the plant, lightning, or Greed interface.
- You cannot explain what additional waiting is expected to gain.
- You are validating a base value and need a clean control run.
If the plant is struck
Record whether its appearance, interaction prompt, sell option, displayed value, and ability to continue growing changed. Do not assume that “dead” means worthless or that a struck plant should always stay planted. The exact result belongs in Alive vs Dead and requires game testing.
